How to pick the perfect sized TV for your apartment

apartment furniture

So I went past a new apartment block in my neighbourhood this morning and noticed  how small the open plan living area is, see pic below. I actually stepped it out, it’s about four metres wide. I immediately thought about the size of the furniture and the best size for a TV for your apartment living room.

Wall mounted TV or TV unit

I think in a small space less is more. Yes, it’s a cliché but in an apartment this size, you have to think of all the furniture that you actually need. For example, you need a sofa and you need a dining table and chairs.

In the space below the island counter looks like it’s got a cut out designed for stools but it doesn’t look deep enough for stools. So I reckon this space will need a small dining table and chairs.

So the furniture you may not need include a TV unit. You could wall mount your TV instead. You also may not need a coffee table. In a space this size I might opt for side tables instead. These can sit either side of the sofa. And I would limit the size of the sofa to a two seater, not an L shaped piece.

This way you keep the space between the sofa and the TV free of furniture. It’s less visual clutter and better for flow of movement.

Best size TV for small apartment

The best size TV for a 3m wide room and is 75-85 inches. You don’t want an oversized TV. It will dominate the room and probably be uncomfortable to watch.

Think of it like you’re sitting in the front row of a cinema. Which isn’t very comfortable at all. Just because you’re working with a small space doesn’t mean you have to compromise comfort, functionality or aesthetics.

If the open plan living area in your apartment is wider then of course you could get a larger TV. The size of the furniture and the quantity of furniture in any apartment depends on the actually size.

Also important is how you use the space, how often you’re home, how often you’re away from home and so on.

There are a lot of factors to consider when furnishing your apartment. But in a small space, it’s best not to overfill it. Actually you might also consider a projector or not have a TV at all.

I know a lot of people use a device such as a tablet or just spend their evenings doomscrolling. So if you don’t need a TV don’t have one. Get some space back and lighten the look and feel of the limited space you have in your apartment.

In small spaces the size of the TV in your apartment may not be the a priority anyway. You may need to consider storage as a priority.
