For the Love of Linen

For the Love of Linen

As much as possible I try to include natural textures and fibres in my concepts for clients. Materials such as linen, cotton, wool and silk. The reason for this is because these textures add warmth, interest and depth to a space.

Personally, I’m partial to linen, not so much in clothing, although I do love a classic linen t.shirt, but when it comes to bedding, I love linen.

Treating myself to linen bedding

After I completed working on a hospitality project, Bekka Lebanese Restaurant in Moonee Ponds, I treated myself to a linen bed set from Home Republic (owned by Adairs).  Conveniently, there was a Home Republic store right next door to Bekka.

Home Republic have a range of 100% linen bed sheets sourced from France called, Vintage Wash.  This range is sold separately, that is the quilt cover, pillow cases and fitted sheets.

I remember paying nearly $500 for the set and although this was a splurge, I did think ‘ouch’.  Bearing in mind I live near a Bed, Bath n Table outlet and haven’t paid full retail price for bed linen for years.

Response to sleeping in 100% linen

Despite the price – it was worth it.

Making my bed and sleeping in 100% linen is an utter joy.  It’s luxurious, warm and comfortable.

I wanted more.

So, I hunted, there are many brands, now offering 100% linen bed sheets.  However, the most reasonably priced and equally luxurious is the linen bedding from Bed Threads.

Two of my clients have now purchased bedding from Bed Threads and love it.  You can see it below in a styling project I worked on in St.Kilda East, an apartment where the client wanted a Minimal Scandinavian style.

Conveniently, Bed Threads sell in packs, so you get the quilt cover, fitted sheet and pillow cases all in one go.  I think I remember paying $250 for a double bed set. So much cheaper than the Home Republic option.

Buy two sets and you can mix and match.  I bought a dark grey set from Home Republic and a navy blue set from Bed Threads.

I can’t really mix and match these two colours, so I just “have to” buy another set from Bed Threads, maybe the oatmeal colour to work with the navy.
