During a weekend break in Noosa recently, I stayed in a studio apartment. There is something about living in a small space that I find liberating. The space had the essentials I needed. With my own essentials, such as clothes and toiletries, for a few days I felt lighter. Here is the perfect kitchen equipment list for easy apartment living.
Kitchen essentials for apartment living
Considering the less is more mindset here’s what I think you need in the kitchen;
- 1 x set tableware
- 1 x set of water glasses
- 1 x set of wine glasses
- 1 x set cutlery
- 1 x set of good cutting knives
- 2 x chopping board, one plastic, one wooden
- 1 x set of pots/pans and other items for cooking such as strainer, measuring cups etc
- 1 x set of storage containers
- 2 x platters
- 4 x tea towels
- 1 x set of coasters
- 1 x set of cooking utensils and other misc items such as garlic press, juicer etc
- 1 x kettle I like stove top kettles to keep the minimal counter space free.
- 1 x toaster, although you could also use the grill function of your oven.
My Noosa studio didn’t have all of these things but my Airbnb does. It’s the stuff I put in for myself when I lived there as I aimed for a minimal approach. You will also need bins if they aren’t integrated into the cabinetry.

Bedroom essentials for apartment living
The storage in bedroom apartments is notoriously minimal. Some of my clients can’t event fit in their summer and winter clothes in the wardrobe. Which is why I regularly recommend a gas lift bed.
I have a capsule wardrobe which I love. This keeps the number of pieces I need to a minimum. I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe and worked with a personal stylist to achieve this.
The reason I really enjoy a capsule wardrobe is that it makes getting dressed easier and my outfits are coordinated with quality pieces which makes me feel good.
For your bedding, two full set quilt cover sets is all I have. I mix and match colours and alternate between the two when I change the bed.
The Noosa studio I stayed in had decorative cushions on the bed which I placed on the floor. But there was an end of bed bench I could have put them on. But this is where I kept my suitcase.
So you could easily have and end of bed bench or basket to store decorative cushions or extra blankets.
Laundry & cleaning essentials for apartment living
Somewhere you also need to store a stick vacuum, and a stick spray mop. A laundry basket, clothes airer, laundry detergent and other cleaning products and equipment.
I feel this is also a sticking point in apartments. As laundries are either in the kitchen or the bathroom. So there isn’t specific storage for laundry and cleaning items.
These need to go in the bedroom, bathroom or kitchen. Depending on your particular situation there will be a solution. You might need to buy a cupboard for example.
But think about new products such as laundry washing sheets, that take up less space. And a ceiling laundry dryer.
If you keep your stuff to just the essentials, such as the kitchen equipment list for apartment living above, you can experience effortless apartment living.
