Classic French Provincial Living

Classic French Provincial Living

Enduring styles like French Provincial are always a joy to create. The pieces are naturally decorative with a high attentional to detail. The materials and texture are lush and luxe. The colours neutral and timeliness. As much as these spaces are a joy to create, a French Provincial living room is also a joy to be in.

The Focal Pieces

I started this classic French Provincial living room buyable mood board with a piece that has all the features of this style. The Sparrow sofa, has generous proportions tufted buttons, curved lines and velvet upholstery.

To accompany this sofa I included the Louis XV linen arm chairs in white. Their curved cabriole leg immediately identifies this mood board as French Provincial in style.

The next piece is the Provence coffee table. I particularly like the shape and detail of the legs. It’s a solid, distressed piece that works well with the sofa.

The Complementary Pieces

During the time of the French royal family showcasing pieces from the colonies and other far away exotic places was a sign of wealth and stature. So an Oriental or Persian rug is another classic feature of French Provincial style.

I need to find a way to add gold into this board and chose the Dorcel Floor lamp for this reason. With the off whites and beige tones of this board, the next piece to add were beige line fringe cushions.

Rococo style mirrors are also common in French Provincial interior style but instead I love art and included an abstract piece with the same colour palette.

And finally a simple small vase of flowers for the coffee table. Due to the level of detail in all the pieces of furniture, I believe less is more in terms of decor in a French Provincial interior styled space. An ivory throw in linen or wool would be a nice addition.

My Favourite Piece

In this French Provincial living room mood board, my favourite piece, is the sofa. I love simple yet striking pieces that make a statement and this piece certainly does that.
