If you were to ask me what are the greatest challenges for people living in apartments, I would say the following. One, is that people tend to overfill their apartments making them feel small and cluttered. The second thing I’d say is the lack of storage is a problem for apartment dwellers. So here are my best storage solutions for apartments.
A capsule wardrobe for your apartment
Ok, so technically this isn’t a storage solution per se but a capsule wardrobe will help you maximise your limited wardrobe space. One of my apartment clients in Southbank who lived alone in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment decided to store his seasonal clothes in separate wardrobes.
He had the current season’s wardrobe in his bedroom and the opposite season’s clothes in the second bedroom which he used as a study. But not everybody has this option. So a capsule wardrobe that fits in one small wardrobe is the goal.
Personally, I can vouch for the amount of space a capsule wardrobe can save you. I have a few key winter and summer pieces that I wear on rotation, like a uniform but interesting.
Gas lift bed for your apartment
A gas lift bed for the main bedroom in your apartment will definitely increase storage space for things like linen and towels. Even a stick vacuum and other random items. Use vacuum bags and the space in a gas lift bed increases.
Some of my apartment clients also use the space in a gas lift bed for shoes, sometimes seasonal clothing, spare blankets for when guests stay. There is so much room in a gas lift bed and it’s so accessible too.

Extra kitchen cabinets for your apartment
Think carefully about this idea, because it’s not for everyone and it’s unconventional but for some people it can work. A bar fridge instead of a standard vertical fridge.
If you’re someone that is hardly home, eats out a lot, orders delivery food a lot or even if you live close to a supermarket a bar fridge could be all that you need. Which means you have space for more cabinets above and below your bar fridge.
It’s a game changer.
Vertical bookshelves & storage coffee table
In a previous post I discussed vertical fixes that could help to make your apartment look bigger. So instead of a low TV unit consider a piece that has height.
An entertainment unit with a combination of shelves and drawers or cupboards can be an ideal place for books, décor and perhaps some tableware.
Your coffee table is also a great storage solution. You can find a piece with drawers underneath the table top or a simple shelf. Alternatively you can add a basket or two underneath your coffee table which adds interest through texture, materiality and colour.
Everything needs to be carefully considered in your apartment. You could say that an apartment needs to be curated. Rather than just dumping furniture in every room consider your stuff, functional requirements and how every piece can have dual purpose. These are best storage solutions for apartments.
